The Madison Central Speech and Debate Team continued its streak of excellence recently at the Northwest Rankin Speaks inaugural Individual Events Invitational. The team only brought 14 students, the majority being novices, and was named runner-up at the tournament. Additionally, the team's Debate Captain, Jack Day, won third place Individual Sweepstakes Winner.

Jack Day was named the champion in both Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking and Expository Speaking. Day has previously represented the MC Speech and Debate Team at Nationals in Extemp, while it is the first time he has competed in Expository Speaking. Day's success in those two events and his earning semifinals in Impromptu Speaking gained him the third place Individual Events Sweepstakes trophy. Team Vice-President Natalie Gault was also named the champion in Original Oratory, as well as placing third in Program Oral Interpretation. Both Day and Gault broke to semifinals or higher in all open division events they competed in, along with team Novice Captain Olivia Bailey and Speaking Captain Kelsey Mayhan. The team also had numerous novices place in semifinals or higher in the majority of events offered.

The Northwest Rankin Speaks Individual Events Invitational is the first hosted by the school. They only offer speaking and interpretative events at the tournament, with no debate being offered.

The team now prepares to compete at the University of Mississippi Tournament in October.
