Organizers for Flora’s annual car show say that a recent team-up between their event and a nearby veteran’s group ensures that this year’s car show will be the biggest one yet.

Rick Lang, a coordinator for the Flora Car Show,  said that they are partnering with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1057 out of Brandon to host the American Vietnam Traveling Tribute of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with the Flora Car Show Oct. 25-28.

“We first started working with Chuck Odom and his guys from Brandon last year, and they really got involved with the event, and it promises to be big and great and wonderful event this year,” Lang said.

The Traveling Wall will be displayed at 102 Jackson Street, directly in front of First Baptist Church in Flora. It is scheduled to arrive Wednesday, Oct. 24, and will be met in Madison by an “honor escort” and then escorted to Flora.

The wall will be on display for free and will be open to the public for the entirety of the time it is in Flora, beginning with an opening ceremony Thursday at 2 p.m. and ending Sunday, 2 p.m.

The display is an 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and a moving tribute honoring those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for our freedom.

“We are really looking forward to this event. A lot of the Vietnam veterans did not get a proper welcome home so in a lot of ways this is a welcome home event,” Lang said. “It's a good thing to be able to stand behind those guys who went out there and did a lot of good work.”

All members of the public are invited to view the wall and attend the opening ceremony Thursday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.

‘From what we have seen the Lord has really blessed us and this event already, and I really look forward to showing people what our little town is capable of,” he said.
