Madison police have arrested and charged a local man with domestic violence after he allegedly shot at a female last Thursday night.

George Gilmore Young, 53, of Madison has been arrested and charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and contempt of court, according to Capt. Kevin Newman of the Madison Police Department. 

Newman said that on Thursday, May 9, at approximately 7:38 p.m., MPD officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on Ashley Terrace. He said that there were reports of a gun being fired.

“While en route officers learned that a male subject at the residence had allegedly fired a shot from a firearm at a female as she was fleeing from the residence,” Newman said.

Officers arrived at the location and secured the immediate area.

Newman said that while attempting to make contact with the male subject at the residence they learned he was located down the street from the home.  

He was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries to either party during this incident.

The subject was then identified as Young. After further investigation, he was charged.  

Young was transported to the Madison County Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance before Madison Municipal Court.

Young remains in the Madison County Detention Center and has not been issued bond.
