Students in the Madison County School District are no longer getting President’s Day off thanks to an uneventful winter weather event that caused district-wide closures on Jan. 29.

The Madison County School District Board of Trustees voted last Monday to use President’s Day as a make-up day.

“According to state law, the missed instructional day of school must be made up because there was no State of Emergency declared,” a release from the district stated.

Madison County schools announced on Jan. 28 that school was canceled the following day after weather reports indicated the potential for up to two inches of snow in the metro area. While there was some snow early that morning, there was little accumulation.
