A Flora attorney indicted on multiple counts of embezzlement in October 2017 was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday, with four years suspended.

Sharon Plunkett, a former attorney with Young Wells Williams, P.A., pleaded guilty in open court in September to one count of embezzlement.

She pleaded guilty to using checks from the firm’s real estate operating account to pay a personal loan totaling $5,000 between Sept. 22, 2015 and July 1, 2016.

Plunkett was sentenced in Madison County Circuit Court on Monday to 10 years, with four years suspended and six to serve.

On Plunkett’s petition to enter a guilty plea, she wrote that during that time period she “converted to my own use money that was entrusted to me by virtue of my office or employment at Young Wells Williams.”

Plunkett was initially indicted on six counts of embezzlement and one count of mail fraud. In those indictments, Plunkett was alleged to have embezzled thousands of dollars from the firm, including $15,230 to purchase Nigerian dwarf goats.

Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest previously said because she pleaded guilty on one count, his office would not pursue the other five indictments.
