GLUCKSTADT — A third suspect has been identified after a second Alabama man was arrested last month in connection with a rash of golf cart thefts here and in Madison.

The most recent person arrested was George Nick Zavros, 41, of Mobile who turned himself in to Gluckstadt Police on April 5 for his alleged involvement in the theft of 12 golf carts and a trailer from Ben Nelson Golf and Outdoor on Nov. 20,  according to Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale said

Zavros had his initial appearance on the same day and was given a $30,000 bond on the grand larceny charge, Hale said. Zavros has since posted the bond.

Hale said GPD expects to make at least one more arrest in the case.

“A third suspect involved in the theft has been identified and charges are pending at this time,” Hale said. “Thank you to our investigators for their dedication and unwavering commitment investigating these crimes and bringing the suspect or suspects in this case to justice.”

Previously arrested was Lou William Vallas, 46, also of Mobile who faces one charge of grand larceny. Vallas was taken into custody in late January after he was identified as a suspect in the case.

Local investigators collaborated with the US Probation Office in Mobile as well as the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama and were able to take Vallas into custody on Jan. 19, Newman said. Vallas was then extradited to Madison, where he was booked into the Madison County Detention Center, where he remains.

Both Vallas and Zavros face larceny charges in Madison as well for several golf carts and a truck stolen from residents in Reunion on in October 2023.
