RIDGELAND — JPMorgan Chase, the seventh largest bank in the world, will bring a roughly 40,000-square-foot branch complete with a drive-through ATM to the financial corner of Steed Road and the Highland Colony Parkway after aldermen gave their unanimous approval.

Developers of the 39,380.5 square foot structure received approval for their site plan and architectural review as well as a conditional use permit for a stand-alone ATM at the Jan. 5 city meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

The items passed 6-0 with Ward 4 Alderman Brian Ramsey recusing himself with a conflict of interest.

Community Development Director Alan Hart said that item had been recommended for approval by the architectural review board.

The space, owned by Arrowhead Real Estate, is currently empty but is part of a larger development with space for at least one other separate building in the future. The bank will use about thirty parking spaces in the development.

The development is near other financial-based businesses including Morgan White Group, Regions bank, Trustmark and Merrill Lynch.

Ward 2 Alderman Chuck Gautier raised questions about the HVAC equipment being exposed. Hart said that he thought that issue was resolved and that the equipment would be screened in the final design that would be submitted.

Gautier also questioned the purpose of an awning. He said that if it was an offset for smokers that it was too close to the front door. A representative for the development present said that it was an “architectural feature” and that there were no plans for that space to accommodate smoking.

JPMorgan Chase is ranked by S&P Global as the largest bank in the United States and the seventh largest bank in the world by total assets.
