Executive Administrative Assistant Janet Brooks said her hands-on work with the city of Gluckstadt has been tremendously rewarding and she enjoys seeing the city change and grow in real time.

“I enjoy coming to work and doing what I do,” Brooks said.

Brooks recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with the city on April 18 and plans to remain there until she retires.

“I’m planning on staying here until the Lord says it’s time for me to leave,” Brooks said. “My goal is at least five more years, but if my health stays well, I will continue to stay after that. Gluckstadt is closer to home and I had a lot of interest in working for them before I came here.”

Prior to her position with the Lucky City, Brooks worked for the State of Mississippi for 17 years, which included the Division of Medicaid, the Attorney General’s Office, the Mississippi Department of Education, and the Mississippi Public Commissioner’s Services.

As the executive administrative assistant, Brooks handles all administrative business, including ordering, purchasing, making sure appointments are set up, and prepares everything for the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, including the minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and more.

“Working with Gluckstadt has been awesome,” she said. “I am learning the government side of things for the city and I haven’t had anything I couldn’t take on and get resolved. I enjoy working with the city and seeing the changes here.”

Brooks and her husband Steven have three grown children, Jessica, Steven, and Isaiah, and 11 grandchildren. Outside of work, Brooks enjoys traveling, shopping, and being with her family.
