Carthage woman killed in MS 16 crash
A Carthage woman died in an accident on Mississippi 16 east of Canton last week when her vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler hauling farm equipment.
The woman, Ashley Stephens, 40, died in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, at about 4:59 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Mississippi 16 near Ratliff Road.
A 1993 Peterbilt, driven by 43-year-old Kevin Nichols of Canton, was hauling farm equipment west on Mississippi 16 when it collided with a 2020 Nissan Altima, driven by Stephens traveling east.
Stephens’ passenger, 70-year-old Johnnie Luckett of Carthage, was transported to Baptist Medical Center in Carthage with unknown injuries, officials said.
The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
