City of Madison Chamber showering businesses with ‘love’

Showing some love to local businesses in the spirit of Valentine’s Day throughout February is the aim of a Madison the City Chamber of Commerce campaign.

The campaign, Lovin’ Local, seeks to support and promote on the chamber’s social media platforms local businesses throughout Madison County that don’t have tangible products such as gifts, clothing or food, chamber officials said.

The highlighted businesses include Real Estate agencies, banks and insurance agencies, which are an important part of the Chamber, said Elizabeth Fulcher, executive director of the Chamber.

Each day throughout February, the chamber is posting pictures of business owners, managers or workers holding a big red heart with the words “Lovin’ Local” in a red and white logo framing the posts that are accompanied by hashtags, including #Support Local #Lovin Local and #Madisonthecitychamber.

Fulcher said the chamber staff members and board of directors are always looking for ways to support local businesses.

“We truly believe that if our local businesses are thriving, it tends to have a ripple effect within our entire community,” Fulcher said.

Lovin’ Local, Fulcher said, will keep the importance of doing business locally in front of people throughout the month of February. However, she said, people have to continually work to get the message out about supporting local businesses now and in the future.

Fulcher said that now, more than ever, it’s important to support one another because the economic vitality of the city depends on keeping dollars here, and it can be easy to see business logos and not think about the faces and people being supported.

For that reason, the campaign is focused on featuring the faces of the people being supported through the Chamber’s posts, she said.

Fulcher said she also hopes the Lovin’ Local campaign will have an economic and personal impact on the community and that featuring the faces of the people from a specific business on each Lovin’ Local post will show just who is being supported and why they are the best choice to represent their company.

Lovin’ Local, Fulcher said, is a campaign only for February, but the chamber has done campaigns in the past such as “Keep the Cheer Here” during the holiday season to encourage local shopping, as well as ‘Enjoy a Night Out in Madison” where they sold coupon books with specials from many local restaurants.

“The Chamber has been brainstorming ideas on how to best expose each of our member’s businesses,” said Landon Thompson, president of the chamber. “We will have other events to try to help other businesses in different months.”

The chamber has also started a “Lifestyle Ladies” Facebook page where different businesses that would be of interest to ladies are promoted in an educational and fun way, Fulcher said.

They’ve also held a virtual fashion show by Village Boutique, make-up tips from Merle Norman Madison, travel by Jennifer Wooten of Magnolia Travel group and Healthy Eating by Mary Sanderson.

Thompson continued by saying Lovin’ Local brings awareness to the residents of Madison to shop local, even if there is not a product that you can pick up from the store.

“I think everyone that has participated has been very appreciative,” Thompson said. “All businesses need as much exposure as possible during these times when everyone is cautious about getting out in public.”
