Madison County cities are getting ready for the Christmas season with plans for parades, markets, and more.

Madison

The city of Madison Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.

Amy Cummins, director of economic development for the city of Madison, said the parade begins at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, goes down Old Canton Road, comes up Madison Avenue, and ends at the Red Caboose.

“Our parade has been going on for a long time,” Cummins said. “It’s a great family friendly event, and at the end of the parade there will be hot chocolate and pictures with Santa, and an awards ceremony.”

The deadline to sign up to have a float in the parade is Dec. 1, and there is no cost to enter.

“The theme this year is Hometown Holiday, where your float theme can be whatever your favorite Christmas traditions are,” Cummins said.

Those who want to take part can email her at ACummins@madisonthecity.com or fill out an application at www.madisonthecity.com.

Other Madison Christmas events include:

• Holiday on Main starts on Dec. 1 at 5:15 p.m., which kicks off with a 50th year celebration service for the Christmas Village in front of the Red Caboose, followed by a Christmas Tree lighting, and ends with a showing of The Polar Express. Attendees are encouraged to wear pajamas.

• In case of inclement weather, the movie showing will be moved inside the Madison Square Center for the Arts.

Ridgeland

The city of Ridgeland will kick off the holiday season with a three-day celebration that begins Thursday, Dec. 1 and runs through Saturday, Dec. 3. Their events include the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Plaza at Old Town Crossing, Christmas at City Hall on the Ridgeland Green, and the Christmas Parade in Old Town.

Ridgeland is also spreading holiday cheer throughout the city with 18 large holiday ornaments placed in various locations. A few of the locations include Lake Harbor Drive, the City Hall zinnia field, Ridgeland Police Department, the Fire Department, and the wildflower field on Jackson Street.

Gluckstadt

Gluckstadt is putting on its inaugural Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m.

The parade begins at Germantown High School and will make its way down Calhoun Station Parkway. It will continue down Calhoun Station, pass Capitol Body Shop, and turn right at Gluckstadt Way. It will travel down Gluckstadt Way past Storage Max and turn right at Church Road. Finally, it will head up Church Road and then turn left back to the south side of Germantown High School.

Gluckstadt City Clerk Lindsay Kellum suggested parking along the side of Calhoun Station Parkway and to mind businesses blocking off places people shouldn’t park.

“Gluckstadt is not accepting any more applicants,” Kellum said. “There will be between 25 and 30 entries, including cars for the mayor and aldermen, school-affiliated dance teams, and floats from local businesses. Everything is North Pole themed, and Santa will be at the end of the parade.”

For more information about the Christmas parade, call the City of Gluckstadt at (769) 567-2306.

Flora

The Flora Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting is Saturday, Dec. 3. The parade starts at 4:30 p.m. Call Flora City Hall for more information at (601) 879-8686.
