County’s COVID cases on the decline

New COVID-19 cases in Madison County are on the decline over the last week. 

But December’s new cases account for nearly 30 percent of the total cases reported since Spring. 

Madison County is reporting 414 new cases within the last week, bringing the total now to 7,079. 

The total number of deaths in the county rose by five within the last week to 132.

Schools are on holiday break now and are set to resume next week so the Mississippi State Department of Health doesn’t have full reporting available. 

Prior to the break, three high schools in the Madison County School District had moved to virtual only after outbreaks associated with off-campus social gatherings spread.

Madison County remains under a mandatory mask ordinance issued by Gov. Tate Reeves until Jan. 15, 2021.

On Wednesday, the MSDH identified 3,023 new cases of COVID-19 across the state with 29 new deaths.

COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state have risen from 669 on Nov. 10 to 1,282 on Dec. 27. Patients in the ICU are also nearing an all-time high at 321, as the number on ventilators also continues to rise. 

In total, 210,032 cases have been reported across the state with 4,719 deaths.
