Crown Club volunteering throughout the community
The Madison County Crown Club girls have spent several weekends volunteering their time this fall, with more planned events to come.
The Crown Club is dedicated to fostering a spirit of volunteerism, leadership, and service among high school girls, encouraging them to give their time and show compassion to those in need, according to Timekia Ford, the Social Events Coordinator.
The Madison County Junior Auxiliary sponsors the Crown Club.
“These young women embody the values of dedication and empathy that are at the core of the Junior Auxiliary’s mission, consistently dedicating themselves to service projects that positively impact our community,” Ford said.
The club has about 115 members, ages 14-18. Ford said they represent several local schools, including all four Madison County School District zones, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, and St. Andrews Episcopal School.
Volunteer events have included visits to Quiet Waters, where they have worked with children with special needs and donated care packages to Sunnybrook Children’s Home.
On Nov. 9, they visited the Home Place in Madison, where they visited with the residents and held a makeshift spa for the women, including manicures, conversation, and treats like cookies.
“These girls have dedicated so much of their time to staying really, really active in the community,” Ford said. “I am so proud of the hard work they have done.”
This weekend, they have a similar trip planned for Highland Home in Ridgeland, where they will play games with the residents and do some caroling.
