MADISON — A sweet gift will be coming to town this Christmas when Crumbl Cookies opens in Colony Crossing.

Crumbl Cookies locations are known for having an open kitchen concept where customers can watch the creation of cookies from start to finish as well as experience the smells and sounds of the bakery.

“While you’re waiting for your cookies to come, they are baking cookies in front of you,” said Annie Squire, who is opening the Madison location of the Utah-based franchise with her husband, Russell, and business partners McKae Nielsen and his fiancé, Jocelyn Wellings. “You see them cracking the eggs and rolling the dough and cutting the cookies. It makes it an experience.”

Nielsen will be managing the day-to-day activities of the store and the Squires are partners as well as Brandon and Jen Nielsen who originated the idea.

“Brandon, our friend from Logan, Utah, called us with the idea to open a Crumbl,” Annie Squire said. “We decided to team up with his nephew, McKae, as well, because of his experience in the industry and his desire to relocate to Mississippi to operate the store.”

As a student at Utah State, McKae participated in original Crumbl Cookies taste tests that helped result in the original chocolate chip cookie recipe now used. The creative cookie franchise will call the 1,600 square foot space at Colony Crossing home. The late December opening date is fluid.

“We hope to be open before the end of the year but things are tricky right now because of all of the supply chain issues,” Squire said. “We’re concerned with getting equipment into place but we’re starting to see things come into place.”

Crumbl Cookies has a large following nationwide and the Squires have followed the company for quite some time.

“I know the products and I believe in it and I’m definitely a devoted fan,” Annie Squire said. “From Texas west was already sold out. We started looking for options and Madison is such a great community and we’ve completely fallen in love with the people there.”

Once open, the business will offer its cookies from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and until midnight on Saturday. The store will be closed on Sundays. There is no seating in the store but they will offer delivery and catering options. The store is hoping to hire up to 60 employees as bakers, drivers, managers as well as various other positions, Squires said.

Each week the store will offer its standard sweet treasures — chocolate chip and a sugar cookie. Then each Sunday night, a nationwide announcement on social media will let everyone know the other four cookie flavors of the week in their rotating menu. In addition, Crumbl Cookies offers a special pink box that highlights the cookies in a one, four, six or party box where the cookies lie flat and not stacked for optimal presentation.

Crumbl Cookies will be in Unit 120 next to Sal & Mookies at 110 Colony Crossing Way in Madison.

The Utah-based franchise, the brainchild of cousin co-founders Jason McGowan (CEO) and Sawyer Hemsley (COO) began in 2017 and now has 264 bakeries in 36 states.
