MADISON — A Dallas man was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI after an early-morning hit-and-run here that killed a Jackson woman last week.

Harrison Neal Little, 29, of Dallas, was initially charged with aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident with Injuries following a wreck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 51 and Hoy Road at 4:43 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10.

Betty Simmons Ross, 58, of Jackson died later in the day at Univeristy of Mississippi Medical Center, officials said.

Police said that a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by Ross, was stopped southbound on Highway 51 at the traffic signal at the intersection with Hoy Road and was struck from behind by a 2014 Toyota Camry driven by Little.

Little appeared in Madison Municipal Court last Thursday for his initial court appearance for the two charges. Bond was set for Little at $500,000 and he remains in the Madison County Detention Center.

Police said that while proceeding to the location officers received information that one of the drivers had fled the scene in his vehicle.

"Officers were able to quickly locate and stop this vehicle on Madison Parkway and detain the driver," Capt. Kevin Newman said. "Probable cause was also developed that indicated the driver that fled was impaired. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Madison Police Department."

The victim had to be extricated from her vehicle by fire department and Ross was transported by Pafford ambulance to UMMC. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

Newman said that further investigation by accident reconstruction investigators from MPD's Traffic Division may bring additional or upgraded charges in the case.
