CANTON — A Mississippi Department of Public Safety call center is approaching a year in its new location here and officials say it’s a model.

The DPS call center is located at 152 Watford Parkway Drive.

Joey Deason, head of the Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA), said the state signed a five-year lease-to-purchase agreement late last summer and they moved into the 84,000-square-foot building shortly after.

DPS spokesperson Bailey Martin said the building services the entire state.

“This building houses driver’s license support staff for the entire state and serves as a call center,” Martin said.

Deason said the center has about 50 employees and is a “prototype” for future call centers in Madison County.

“The building was already set up as a call center so that was kind of the main attraction,” Deason said.

Deason said MCEDA is proud to see DPS establish the center in Madison County and he looks forward to seeing what the future holds for DPS and others.

Martin said they hope to continue to add services and features to the center.

“We are hopeful to have more additions in the future,” Martin said.
