EDITORIAL/Josiah Coleman for justice

Supreme Court Justice Josiah Coleman has proven his commitment to the rule of law, the separation of powers, and restraining government overreach and protecting the liberty of citizens.

This election is a critical race in north Mississippi and who wins on Nov. 3 will eventually have an impact on us here.

When judges attempt to decide the outcome of a case and then justify it with legal manipulation, they become policy makers and legislate from the bench; but Coleman has not engaged in such judicial power grabs and we are convinced he never would.

Coleman’s adherence to the Constitution respects the law, the role of the judiciary, and the people of Mississippi.

Personally, he is a conservative and would certainly fall into the same judicial philosophy and qualifications of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett and other such as the late justice Antonin Scalia.

Coleman has been endorsed by the Mississippi Republican Party for good reason.. He has served on the Mississippi Supreme Court for the past seven years and before that practiced law privately for more than a decadle.

A solid family man, he has served as a Deacon in the College Hill Presbyterian Church in Oxford.

Notably, he served as a volunteer firefighter on the Toccopola Volunteer Fire Department while he and his family lived in Pontotoc County.

We encourage our friends in the Northern Supreme Court District to re-elect Josiah Coleman.
