George Stanley Roberts, 75, was born on July 28, 1946, and fought valiantly against MDS (pre -leukemia) for a year until his passing on August 23, 2021. 

A funeral service was held August 28, 2021 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. 

He was a graduate of Raleigh High School and Mississippi State University, where he majored in Poultry Science. He taught biology and chemistry for four years at Raleigh High School before starting work at his father-in-law's bulk plant in Newton, Mississippi. When the Gulf Oil consignee died suddenly, Roberts applied for the job, running the business for six months, before taking over in 1975. Incorporated as G. Stanley Roberts, Distributor, Inc., in 1975, the company changed its name to Capital Oil, Inc., in 1997, when the company moved its headquarters to Jackson, Mississippi. 

Professionally, Roberts joined the Mississippi Petroleum Marketers /Convenience Store Association (MPMCSA) in 1978, serving as an officer and as president. He was a member of the BP Amoco Marketers Association and represented Mississippi on its board. MPMCSA elected Roberts as its Representative on the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) Board of Directors in 2002. He served in that capacity until his election to the Executive Board where he became chairman in 2012. Roberts additionally belonged to the Business and Industrial Political Education Committee and the Mississippi Economic Council. 

One of his greatest areas of pride was the establishment of a 'Being In the Right Place at the Right Time' Scholarship given to an honor high school student attending East Central Community College. 

He was a former member of the Forest United Methodist Church and a current member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a communion steward and cross bearer. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, G. H. and Flora Roberts. and one sister, Martha Martin. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janis, Ridgeland, Mississippi; one son Stan (Colleen), Jackson, Mississippi; 4 granddaughters, Tori Roberts, Tucson, Arizona; Meredith Roberts, Nashville,Tennessee; Elena Roberts, Jackson, Mississippi; and Emma Roberts, Jackson, Mississippi, and one niece and nephew.
