Germantown High School’s Arrington values teammates as family
GLUCKSTADT — Senior linebacker Devin Arrington said he considers his fellow Germantown High School football teammates to be a big family, and they are the reason he loves playing football for his school.
Arrington started playing linebacker for Germantown High School when he was in ninth grade, and he has held that position ever since.
“My family moved here when I was 10 years old, and my brother went to Germantown,” Arrington said. “I’ve been playing football since I was 3 years old, and I just loved the game. I wanted to be a linebacker because over the years I played several different positions, and one day in middle school I was told by my coach I was playing linebacker. I learned the position and grew to love it.”
Arrington said his favorite part of playing for Germantown is the love he feels playing on the team.
“We’re a family,” Arrington said. “If I’m going through something, my teammates are there for me. We all grew up together, and they’re my brothers. It’s something special, and I’ll never forget it.”
Arrington is graduating from Germantown in May and has a couple of colleges in mind, including Georgia State or Louisville. He hopes to major in either real estate or marketing.
For a career after football, Arrington said his parents are real estate agents and build houses, which is something he is interested in. He said he would also love to get into commercial-making for big companies such as Nike.
“Besides sleeping, I love hanging out with my friends since we do everything together,” Arrington said. “I plan to get a job after this year, maybe Chick-Fil-A. I like to collect shoes, I like to clean, and I love to cook all sorts of things.”

“I’m going all in this year,” Arrington said. “We have a shot at the state title this year, and I am bringing it.”
Germantown head football coach Scott Brown praised Arrington for being a good, coachable team player.
“Devin is a good kid and plays harder than anyone on the team,” Brown said. “He’s very intense and coachable. He is a yes sir and no sir guy. He has always been a team player, and he would run through a brick wall if you asked him to.”
Brown said Arrington had 19 tackles against Vicksburg on Aug. 27, which he said is good for a linebacker.
“Everyone has worked hard all summer and worked hard in the weight room,” Brown said. “I hope it all pays off for us. We went 4-7 last season, but four of those losses were by 7 points or less. This is our third year of 6A, so it’s been a little more challenging for us.”
Brown said the district Germantown is in is the toughest in Mississippi, and his team has to bring their A-game every Friday night.
“We’re focusing on making the playoffs since we’ve never reached the playoffs in the time we’ve been 6A,” Brown said. “Once you get to the playoffs, anything can happen. Devin is an essential part of the team — just a good kid. Every teacher enjoys having him in class. He’s a joy to be around, on and off the field.”
