Germantown junior wins state golf championship

Madison Central and Germantown battled for the MHSAA 7A boys’ golf state championship, with Madison Central winning the state title by ten shots over the second-place Mavericks to win the team state championship at Tunica National Golf Club earlier this week. Germantown was able to get a measure of revenge however, as junior Landry Williamson was able to take home the overall individual state title with a 141 overall score in two rounds of play. 

Madison Central’s team score of 613 was good for a ten-shot margin of victory over second-place Germantown, who finished with a team score of 623. Tupelo, Brandon, and Ocean Springs rounded out the top five in the 7A team portion of the tournament. 

As for the individual portion of the competition for Germantown, Williamson finished first with a 141 score and a six-shot margin of victory over second-place, senior Grayson Davis finished 13th with a 158 score, junior Stewart King and junior Ethan Culbertson finished tied for 19th with a 162 score, junior Collins Herrington finished 28th with a 166 score, and sophomore Luke Jordan finished 34th with a 168 score. 

In the individual portion of the tournament for Madison Central, junior Tucker Gutierrez finished third with a 148 score, freshman Wright Taylor finished sixth with a 152 score, senior Hayden Webber finished tenth with a 156 score, senior Daniel Young finished 11th with a 157 score, sophomore Parker Winders finished 22nd with a 163 score, and sophomore Gray Collins finished 42nd with a 171 score.

St. Andrew’s also participated in the MHSAA 1A-2A championships on Tuesday and Wednesday, with results still pending at print time.
