G’stadt Mayoral Council to host 5K

Posted

Lace up your running shoes! The City of Gluckstadt Mayoral Health Council (MHC) is teaming up with the Jackson Heart Study to host its inaugural 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 29, in recognition of National Nutrition Month.

The event, aimed at raising awareness for heart health and nutrition, will take place on Parkway East, with the start and finish line at the intersection of Weisenberger Road and Parkway East. Participants of all ages are encouraged to join this community-driven event that highlights the importance of staying active and making healthy food choices.

Adding to the excitement, Gluckstadt Mayor Walter C. Morrison IV has issued a friendly challenge to Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale. The two city leaders will be going head-to-head in the race, and the mayor is calling on the community to show up and participate.

“Chief Hale and I are running against one another,” said Mayor Morrison during the March 11 Board of Aldermen meeting. “I hope everyone comes out and has a great time.”

The event is about more than just running—it’s about raising awareness and promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle. Shelia Spann, the Coordinator for the Mayoral Health Council and a pharmacist, emphasized the importance of nutrition in overall well-being.

“Nutrition and health go together. This will be an opportunity to educate and raise awareness,” said Spann.

To further support this effort, there will be food trucks, vendors, and complimentary refreshments available for participants and spectators.

How You Can Help? Local businesses are encouraged to donate water, manned coffee stations, apples, bananas, and orange juice to support race participants.
