Henry Joseph Rings
Henry Joseph Rings, 97, was born on March 4, 1926, in Jackson, MS to Ethel Schlosser Rings and Louis Rings.
He died peacefully on March 15, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton on March 18, 2023 with interment following in the Canton City Cemetery.
Henry was a graduate of Canton High School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. He was a proud veteran and served his country on ships in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea in the Coast Guard/Navy during WWII and on Liberty Ships bringing home troops and supplies from Europe.
He was one of the last surviving members of the Greatest Generation. After the war Henry and his wife, Suzy, joined his father in Canton operating and later owning the family business, Rings Hardware, until their retirement in 1995.
He was a lifelong resident of Canton. After retirement, Henry thoroughly enjoyed the 10 o’clock Coffee Club of the Canton Square with his friends. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club for 63 years. In his younger years he was active in the Canton Lions Club, Touchdown Club and especially in his church, Sacred Heart, where he was a very active member his entire life until his health declined.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth (Suzy) Rings and his brother-in-law, George Dumas.
Survivors include his sister Josephine (Jo) Rings Dumas of Bloomfield Hills, MI; son Henry Louis (Skooter) Rings (Nancy); daughter Janis Rings Lampkin (Larry); son John Hastings Rings (Deanna); daughter Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Rings Lawrence (Mark Bryant). He is also survived by grandchildren: Dr. Will Lampkin (Dawn), John L. Rings (Ellen), Amy Lampkin Haley (Michael), David Rings (LeeAnn), Jacquelyn Rings Campbell (Adam), Christopher Lawrence (Ashley), Shelby Bryant (Andres Santa); his great grandchildren: Anderson Rings, Sara Kennedy Lampkin, Cooper Lampkin, Logan Kelly, Celeste Rings, Harper Lampkin, Kinsleigh Bell, Ann Fondren Rings, Ella James Campbell, and Anna Rollins Lawrence.
