I-55 closing in intervals for bridge

The southbound lanes of Interstate 55 will be closed in 30-minute intervals for five nights next week as crews continue work on the new Reunion Parkway bridge, the Mississippi Department of Transportation announced.

The intermittent closures will affect the stretch of I-55 southbound between the Gluckstadt and Madison exits. The work follows similar closures on the northbound side of the interstate last month.

“Crews will hang beams for the new Reunion Parkway bridge over I-55 south during the closure intervals,” MDOT said in a news release.

The closures are scheduled to occur nightly from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., beginning Monday, July 7, and continuing through Friday, July 11. MDOT officials noted that the work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Drivers are advised to slow down, anticipate stops, and seek alternate routes if necessary. Warning signs will be placed ahead of the work zone to alert motorists.
