Indianola woman leads law enforcement on chase ending in Louisiana
An Indianola woman faces charges locally after a chase spanning multiple jurisdictions from Madison to Louisiana, according to Madison Police.
Katrina Renea Courtney, 39, of Indianola was arrested and charged with No License Tag, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Felony Fleeing. MPD Capt. Kevin Newman said that her extradition to Madison is pending.
Brandon Wiltcher, a spokesman for the Madison (La.) Parish Sheriff's Department, said that Courtney was not facing charges in Louisiana.
Newman said that the arrest stems from an event on Thursday, Dec. 3 starting at approximately 9:18 p.m. At this time an officer of the Madison Police Department attempted to stop a 2015 white Hyundai Sonata on Madison Parkway/Highway 463 for no license tag.
“The vehicle initially failed to stop for the officer as it continued on Highway 463,” Newman said. “As another police vehicle arrived to assist, the suspect vehicle drove towards this police vehicle and sideswiped it.”
The suspect vehicle then fled onto Interstate 55 southbound.
Officers pursued the vehicle southbound on Interstate 55 into Jackson as the Jackson Police Department was notified.
The suspect vehicle exited the interstate briefly at High Street but again proceeded back southbound onto Interstate 55. The suspect vehicle continued until it reached the Interstate 55 and Interstate 20 interchange where it then proceeded westbound onto Interstate 20.
The Clinton Police Department was then notified.
The suspect vehicle continued west on Interstate 20 into Warren County and Vicksburg and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Vicksburg Police Department were notified as well as the Madison Parish (LA) Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police as the pursuit was approaching the state line.
Wiltcher said that they received the call of the incoming vehicle around 10 p.m.
He said that as the suspect vehicle entered Louisiana, troopers from the Louisiana State Police deployed stop-sticks near the Interstate 20 weigh station. The vehicle then slowed and stopped on the side of Interstate 20 near the Delta, Louisiana exit. The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody without incident.
“There were no injuries or other property damage as a result of the pursuit,” Newman said.
Wiltcher said that a passenger in the vehicle was also briefly taken into custody without incident. The passenger was not charged and was given a ride back to Mississippi by local authorities.
The driver was then identified as Courtney. She was taken into custody by the Delta, Louisiana Marshal for traffic violations. Arrest warrants were obtained by MPD officers charging Courtney in Madison with the above charges.
