Joe Brooks Chapman, Jr. of Madison, MS, age 86 entered his eternal home on October 23, 2020 after a brief illness.  Joe was born February 22, 1934 in Cruger, MS.  He was married to his high school sweetheart, Dixie Lee Winborn for 65 years.  He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot during the Korean Conflict.  After leaving the Air Force, he graduated from Mississippi College in 1960 and pursued different professions while raising his family including owning and managing a Chrysler Corporation Dealership.  In 1981, he received a Master's degree in Religious Education and Music from NOBTS.  Bro. Joe served as Minister of Education and Music at Briarwood Baptist Church in Jackson, MS from May 1981 to December 1984.  He then faithfully served Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Madison, MS in various pastoral roles from 1984 to January 2014.  He enjoyed leading mission trips, going on fishing trips with the men's group, overseeing the church daycare, teaching Sunday School and especially hosting church dinners and banquets before retiring at the age of 80.  He continued to serve visiting the homebound and nursing homes providing devotionals and pastoral care.  In addition, he was always ready to serve the City of Madison resulting in January 26 proclaimed "Joe Chapman Day" by Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler.

Bro. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe Brooks Chapman, Sr. and mother, Ida "Lucile" Lehman. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lee Chapman; daughter, Lee Ann (Gary) Smith; sons, Daniel Houston (Ivy) Chapman, Joe Cass Chapman, John Michael (Debbie) Chapman; grandchildren, Heather Smith Martinez, Brandon Smith, Casey Chapman Goldstone, Tyler Chapman, Myles Chapman, Aubrey Brooks Chapman, Cassie Jo Chapman Lovette, and 16 great grandchildren.  Bro. Joe (affectionately known as Poppy) will be greatly missed by friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 7469 Old Canton Road, Madison, Mississippi 39110.

Visitation will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm.  The service will begin on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 11:00am also at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.  Graveside service and burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, MS.  In consideration of the family and friends, please wear a mask and practice Covid-19 precautions.
