Lost Rabbit Easter egg hunt a success

Lost Rabbit residents held an Easter Egg hunt at a park previously threatened by developers.

Melissa Rushing, a resident and business owner in Lost Rabbit, organized the event.

“It was beautiful weather,” Rushing said. “It was a special event and a special day.”

She said they hid around 1,500 plastic eggs full of candy and other prizes as well as six golden carrots each of which contained a $70 gift card to Lost Rabbit businesses.

During Peak Hours Rushing said the event had between 150 and 200 children and adults present.

In addition to the egg hunt, participants could take pictures with the Easter bunny and enjoyed pizza. The Rabbit Hole also set up a Bloody Mary and Mimosa station for the adults. Rushing said a portion of the proceeds from the impromptu bar went to the social board of the HOA who organizes these events.

“The community really came together to make a magical Easter event for the kids,” Rushing said.

Rushing said this is only her second year participating. She said she gladly volunteered when other organizers said they were not sure they could make the event happen.

The event had been a success for her sons, Fletcher, 10, and Watson, 5, in previous years. Amassing the eggs was a community effort. She said neighbors would drop off a load of eggs and her five year old son enjoyed finding a spot to store them in the house.

When the event was over, organizing a clean up committee was unnecessary.

“Everyone just started helping clean up,” Rushing said.

The event was held at what residents have dubbed Shoreside Park. The park is a green space by the Reservoir located just off of Old Trace Road in the development.

Last month the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District board voted to deny a developer’s request to build four housing units on the lot. The board denied the request on the grounds that the lot had been designated a green space since the development began.

Rushing said the wind coming off of the Reservoir added to the atmosphere of the day and said Shoreline Park is bigger than the space they held the event last year.
