Madison Central playing for title

MADISON — The Madison Central Jaguars have not brought home a state championship since 1999, so players and fans are excited about playing for the state Class 6A state championship Friday against Brandon.

Madison Central (12-1) faces Brandon (11-2) in the 7 p.m. Friday game at the University of Southern Mississippi’s M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg.

Madison Central Head Football Coach Toby Collums said he is excited to be playing for the title.

“These kids worked very hard to be here, and it’s been a long time coming,” Collums said. “It’s been since 1999 that they’ve won a state championship, so I hope we win and take home that title. We’re up against Brandon High School.”

Madison Central beat Starkville 34-13 on the road last Friday in the third-round playoffs to advance to the championship game.
