Madison is re-opening Liberty Park and Strawberry Patch Park today to coincide with the easing of businesses restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic

Residents are still required to practice social distancing and groups no larger than 20 can assemble as part of Gov. Tate Reeves' "Safer-at-Home" order.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District also re-opened Old Trace Park along the Ross Barnett Reservoir this morning. Ridgeland re-opened its city parks two weeks ago.

As of Tuesday, there were 11 deaths recorded in Madison County, with 8 of those from long-term care facilities. The daily report from the state was not available as of 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Madison County's positive cases increased to 298, up 74 from last week. There were 40 reported outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

Of the total cases, 117 are black, 81 are white, and the rest are classified as other or under investigation. The deaths were classified as three black and eight white.

Neighboring Hinds County leads the state with 565 cases and Rankin County has 221 positive cases.

The death toll in the state also climbed to 342. Last week it was 250.

MSDH has begun to once again report the total number of tests conducted at the state lab and private testing facilities. As of May 4, over 80,000 tests had been conducted.



According to MSDH, 19 percent of the positive cases have required hospitalization. Sixty percent are female. Fifty-eight percent of deaths have been African American.

There are 4,421 cases that are presumed recovered.

Canton is the only municipality in the county that has enacted a curfew that is in effect from 9 pm.-5 a.m.

Gov. Tate Reeves replaced his initial shelter-in-place order last week with a "safer-in-place" order. Most retail establishments are now be able to open with half the allowed occupancy.

Starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, that freedom will be extended to restaurants, which will be able to operate at half capacity and utilizing best practices for social distancing. Reeves announced Monday that restrictions on public parks and youth sports facilities would soon be relaxed as well.

Barbershops, tanning salons, tattoo parlors and similar businesses remain closed. Schools have been closed for the rest of the semester.
