MADISON — An Oklahoma fugitive was apprehended after a high-speed chase initiated by Madison Police Wednesday morning ended in Gluckstadt.

Madison Police at about 9:45 a.m. received a report of stolen vehicle in the area and a short time later officers observed the stolen 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck traveling west at Highway 463 and Interstate 55.

Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle at Highway 463 and Bozeman Road at which time the driver fled, MPD reported.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Gluckstadt and Madison County.

The Gluckstadt Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office were notified and assisted in the pursuit.

When the fleeing vehicle reached Gluckstadt Road and Highway 463, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway into a field.

The suspect was then taken into custody by officers without incident.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Thomas W. Cofer of Hugo, Oklahoma.

Cofer was charged with receiving stolen property, felony fleeing and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Further investigation revealed that Cofer was also an escapee from the Choctaw County, Oklahoma Jail and was wanted by that jurisdiction.

There was no property damage or injuries as a result of the pursuit.

After booking, Cofer was transported to the Madison County Detention Center. The case will be forwarded to District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, the authorities said.
