RIDGELAND — A Jackson man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old during a party in hotel room off of I-55 Monday evening, the authorities said.

The man accused, Johnterrius Demond Murriel, 21, of Jackson, was arrested and charged with murder.

Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers identified the victim as Jamarison Keshawn Rogers of Jackson.

Myers said on Monday, Aug. 8, Ridgeland Police responded to a shooting at the Wingate Hotel, 6485 I-55 Frontage N, behind the Drury Inn.  

Several friends and acquaintances had gathered in a room for a party, according to police. Myers said there was “some sort of party” with “a bunch of young people” 

An argument ensued and what began as a verbal dispute turned physical. Myers said Murriel shot and killed Roger 

Murriel was taken into custody within three hours of the incident, Myers said. 

Murriel is being held in the Madison County Jail without bond.
