MADISON — A new school zone will reduce the speed limit for a portion of Rice Road outside Madison Avenue Upper Elementary during school hours, officials said.

A release from the Madison Police Department notes the City of Madison has established Rice Road between Chantilly Drive and Trace Vineyard as a school zone of 25 miles per hour during the morning hours between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2 p.m. to 3:30p.m. MPD says this went into effect on Monday.

New signage has been put into place that explains the limit is only in force when the sign is flashing, the MPD release explains. During normal hours, the speed limit through this zone is 35 miles per hour.

“Please continue to lower your speed and use caution in and around all school zones as there is an increase in traffic, school buses, and children walking and riding bikes during those times,“ MPD said.
