A former Canton police officer has been sentenced to three years supervision after pleading guilty to falsifying an accident report to defraud her insurance company.

Toni Tameka Borden pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud Monday in Madison County Circuit Court.

Borden admitted to falsifying an accident report with her insurance carrier, Safeco Insurance, by saying she was driving the vehicle during the time of an accident. In fact, her uninsured daughter was driving the vehicle.

Circuit Judge Dewey Arthur sentenced Borden to two years on the Intensive Supervision Program followed by one year of supervised probation. She must also pay $21,131.85 to Safeco and other court costs incurred.

Borden will also have to forfeit her law enforcement certification.
