Ridgeland aldermen approve plans for new UPS facility

RIDGELAND — UPS received the go-ahead on plans for their 95,000 square foot facility here set to begin construction in 2021.

Site plans and architectural review for the facility were unanimously approved at the Dec. 1 meeting of the Mayor and Board of Alderman. 

The facility will be located on West Market Ridge Drive. 

“I think they did a nice job,” Mayor Gene F. McGee said.

The plans were approved on the condition that two recommendations from the city be met. 

Community Development Director Alan Hart said that the recommendations included materials for the chain-link fence surrounding the building and that a proposed guardhouse at the gate have a brick facade.

Plans show numerous truck bays and large doors to facilitate deliveries and pickups of a variety of sizes. 

The facility is to serve as a “last mile package destination” and is expected to generate 161 jobs with an average annual wage of $57,000. UPS has said the new facility represents a $28.6 million investment.
