Ridgeland business helping strengthen bones

Belhaven's Tamar Sharp has been going to OsteoStrong since April 2019 for her hips and spine. She said that doctors discovered osteopenia, a thinning of bone mass and precursor to osteoporosis, in 2016 and it had advanced to osteoporosis by 2018.

"I looked into the medicine they wanted to put me on and I just didn't like some of the side effects I was hearing," Sharp said. "I said give me a year to find something else before I go on the medicine."

Sharp found William McKee and gave the OsteoStrong system a try.

"I have seen marked improvements in strength and bone density and my osteoporosis has reverted osteopenia," Sharp said.

McKee opened his OsteoStrong franchise in Brandon in 2015. About two years ago he moved to his Ridgeland location off of Rice Road.

McKee and his wife are registered nurses. When they opened their OsteoStrong office, he said that the brand had less than 20 locations and now has 120 locations in nine different countries. Their system helps strengthen the skeletal system by applying pressure to parts of the body to encourage bone growth. he said the process is painless and sweat-free. He said their machines can improve bone density, posture, balance, performance and lessen joint and back pain. He said clients have also reported improvements in overall mental and physical health.

"When you are a kid your bones are strong," McKee said. "You jump off of the porch and run around and that puts pressure on your skeletal system which encourages bone growth but when you get older you stop doing that and your bones don't get weaker. Our system puts pressure on the skeletal system to promote bone growth. It makes the bones stronger not longer."

Bekki Little started treatment in July and said she saw improvements in bone density at her last doctor checkup in January.

"At my age just a little improvement is great and I cannot wait to see what my next bone checkup shows after I have been going for longer than six months," she said.

Little and her husband live in between Madison and Gluckstadt. They like to ride bikes.

"I feel stronger and can keep up with my husband on bike rides," Little said.

McKee takes each client with the help of another employee, usually registered nurse, through a series of machines. McKee said the circuit usually takes about 10 minutes and most clients come in once a week.

"William is very supportive and makes sure you get the most out fo each session," Sharp said. "The customer service is great."

McKee said that the quick treatment time ensures that there are fewer than six people in the building at any given time and all the equipment is wiped down after use.
