RIDGELAND - The St. Andrew’s girls have won the state soccer title for the first time since 2009.

The Saints (22-1) defeated four-time defending champion Sacred Heart 3-1 Saturday in a rematch from last year’s championship game.

St. Andrew’s faced a 1-1 tie at the half, but added two more goals in the second half and shut Sacred Heart out in the final 40 minutes to secure the win.

The Saints picked up one goal in the ninth minute on a corner kick. The second and third goals came in the 42nd and 56th minute, respectively.

Sacred Heart’s lone goal came on an unassisted shot in the 16th minute.

In other action, the St. Andrew’s Boys (16-8) fell to their rivals from Sacred Heart 3-2 in overtime in the Boys’ 1A-2A-3A Championship. The Saints got goals from Tanner Hendrix and Caleb Young, but it wasn’t enough.

The Madison Central Boys (20-1-2) fell 2-0 to Ocean Springs in the 6A finale. Keeton Holifield and Adam Walker both scored goals for the Greyhounds.
