RIDGELAND — A side street off of the Highland Colony Parkway will bear a new name soon after a unanimous vote by alderman.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen unanimously voted to change East Parkway Drive to Purpose Place on the condition that the naming does not interfere with any existing deeds or covenants.

The item, an ordinance, passed unanimously, 7-0 when the consent agenda was approved.

The road comes off of the parkway to the east and goes in between Morgan White group and the Wells Marble and Hurst PLLC buildings. The road does not have any addresses connected with it.

City Attorney John Scanlon said that the change would be made through the State Highway Department and that the requester, a private petitioner, had agreed to pay all fees associated with the process.

In other board action:

• Approved a special event permit for a fundraiser at Christ Covenant School.

• Approved a special event permit for Shucker’s annual crawfish boil.

• Authorized the operation of 18 unmarked vehicles for the Ridgeland Police Department. Four vehicles were approved for PD administrators like Chief John Neal’s 2020 Ford Explorer. Three 2016 Dodge Chargers will be used to serve warrants and the remaining 11 vehicles are designated for investigations. Neal said he had the list reviewed by both City Attorney Jerry Mills and a representative of the State Auditors Office.

• Appointed Dr. Phleton Cortez Moss to the Community Awareness Committee.

• Approved sewer adjustments.

• Approved the city claims docket.
