CANTON - One male is in custody following a shooting in the McDonald's drive-through that occurred Wednesday evening that left one dead and three in critical condition, one of which is a 13-year-old.

Deondric Devontae-Remon Green, 20, was identified as the suspect. He has been arrested and charged with one count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.

Police Chief Otha Brown said that they received a call at 6:24 p.m. reporting shots fired at the McDonald's on West Peace Street. Brown said that when they got to the scene they had found that four black males were shot, one of which was deceased. The other three, including a 13-year-old, were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Brown said that they were all in critical condition.

An interview with one of the victims identified Green as the suspect and led to law enforcement executing a warrant for his arrest after Midnight, around 12:30 a.m.

The U.S. Marshals Service, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Madison County Sheriff’s Department as well as representatives of the Madison Police Department helped to process the scene, identify the suspect and execute the arrest. Brown said that they also received assistance from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“We received help from a lot of other agencies,” Brown said. “We appreciate them coming to our aid in our time of need and want to thank all the mayors and police chiefs and such for allowing them to do that. We have a good working relationship.”

Brown said that the investigation has been handed over to MBI.
