Suspect sought in Canton shooting

CANTON — A suspect in a fatal shooting reported last week here is being sought, the authorities said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing an unnamed suspect in connection with the investigation into the fatal shooting on Whisper Ridge Avenue, SO spokesman Heath Hall said.

“We do have a suspect,” Hall said. “It is an ongoing investigation.”

Hall said deputies were called at 5:57 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, to Whisper Ridge Avenue in Canton, where a man had been reported shot. 

Hall said when deputies arrived on scene they found the victim who was then transported to the hospital where he died.

Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland identified the victim as 24-year-old Marquez Lindsey. 

Breeland said he is releasing no further details as to the extent of Lindsey’s wounds at this time but did note that he died as a result of a gunshot wound.
