Annette G. Joe, 86 of Ridgeland, MS, loving mother, MeeMaw, and piano teacher entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, November 23 after a short illness.

Mrs. Joe was born on December 27, 1936, in Merigold, MS to Lee Chiles Sit Gong and K. W. Gong, Sr. Following her graduation from Boyle High School she attended Mississippi University for Women. At MUW she served as president of Sigma Alpha Iota, music fraternity, and treasurer of the student body. After graduation in 1957 with a Bachelor of Music degree Annette married the love of her life Edward Y. Joe, Sr. They began their life together in Jackson, Ms. and Mrs. Joe started a successful career as a piano teacher. Annette was an active member of MacDowell Federated Music Club where she served in various roles. A member of MMTA she held many offices including president. Mrs. Joe touched many lives in her 63 year music career and one of the greatest joys of her life was to see former students succeed. 

Active in her church and community, Mrs. Joe had a deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ and was a longtime member of Parkway Baptist Church where she coordinated children's graded choirs, taught children’s Sunday school, was a leader in the bus ministry and sang in the Sanctuary choir. Annette served as a children’s choir clinician with the MS Baptist convention. After the passing of her husband in 2021 Mrs. Joe joined First Ridgeland Baptist Church where she was active in her Life Group, Bible Study, and the Central MS Food Pantry.

Mrs. Joe was known for her home cooked meals and enjoyed preparing food for her family and friends. She valued the time she was able to spend with her family. Annette particularly enjoyed watching her eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren grow and follow their accomplishments.

Mrs. Joe was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arnold Gong and Stephen Gong and sisters Marion Gong Lee and Juanita Gong Dong. She is survived by her children, Edward Y. Joe, Jr. (Ginger) of Madison, MS, Lynette Joe Barber (David) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Michael W. Joe (Lylla) of Madison, MS. She also leaves her grandchildren Edward Y. Joe, III (Kaylee) and great-children, Connor and Hallee, Stephen Joe, Peyton Joe, Joseph Barber (Kelsey), Jonathan Barber (Madison), Jessica Moore (Jacob), Kennedy Joe and Chambers Joe. Survivors also include her brother K.W. Gong, Jr. of Chatsworth, GA; and sisters Patricia Gong of Knoxville, TN; and Gwendolyn Gong (John Powers) of Arlington, VA; and many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at First Ridgeland Baptist Church on Jackson Street in Ridgeland, MS, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church. The interment will be after the funeral at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
