Madison Central softball defeated Germantown in a 3-2 thriller at home on Tuesday night, thanks in part to a walk-off hit in extra innings to secure the win. 

Ridgeland basketball star Phil Nelson announced his signing with Mississippi College on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson Prep baseball has been the state’s most dominant program over the last decade, winning seven straight state titles. The Patriots continued their journey for an eight straight title with a 6-1 district win over St. Joseph on Tuesday. 

Canton Academy did not have to look far for their new head football coach. Canton Academy alum and assistant coach Tripp McCarty was tapped to lead the football program, the school announced on Tuesday. 

Local baseball and softball teams have begun district and region play, with multiple schools picking up key wins to put themselves at the top of the standings early on.

Canton Football Head Coach Calvin Bolton announced his retirement, after leading the program since 2017. 

Canton senior Jamarion Davis-Fleming was named the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year for basketball for the 2024-2025 season. 

Mary Logan Clark, senior at Germantown High School, signed to play soccer at Northwest Community College.

Julia Glasgow, senior at Germantown High School, signed to play softball at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Ava Martinez, senior at Germantown High School, signed to play soccer at Copiah Lincoln Community College.

The MAIS basketball all-state teams and awards were recently announced, with multiple area players and coaches being honored. 

Local baseball and softball teams had a strong week, with multiple teams traveling for tournaments during the spring break week for most schools.

Germantown alumna and Ridgeland native Madison Booker, who is now a star at the University of Texas, was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year last week, following a phenomenal sophomore season.
