When a team gets hot in the postseason, anything can happen. MRA softball is catching fire in the MAIS 6A state tournament, as the four-seeded Patriots knocked off one-seeded Jackson Prep and three-seeded Presbyterian Christian and find themselves ready to play for a state title against Hartfield Academy. 

Jackson Prep became the latest MAIS school to knock off a defending MHSAA state champion, as they dominated 6A titleholders West Jones in a 42-7 victory on Friday night.

The Tri-County Academy softball team is headed to the MAIS 4A state tournament, following an undefeated effort en route to winning the MAIS 4A south tournament. 

Tyshun Willis did it all for the Falcons in their 32-12 win over Leake Central on Friday night. Willis totalled 151 yards and two touchdowns rushing, 105 yard and a touchdown rushing, a 48-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, 8.5 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks on the night. 

It’s another huge MAIS vs. MHSAA matchup in Madison County this week, as undefeated Jackson Prep will host the defending MHSAA 6A state champions West Jones, who is also undefeated on the season.

Tri-County Academy continued their dominant season with a 47-7 rivalry win over Canton Academy on Friday night, moving to 6-0 on the season.

Stockett had a monster game for the Patriots in a big, 51-13 win over defending MHSAA state champions Oak Grove. He finished 22-30 passing, with 433 yards, and six touchdowns through the air.

Two local rivals feature in this week’s game of the week, as Tri-County Academy hosts Canton Academy on Friday night.

MRA made a major statement Friday night, blowing out the defending MHSAA 7A state champions, Oak Grove, by a score of 51-13.

Though Ridgeland drew first blood in a non-region matchup against Pearl High School, they dropped their homecoming outing 22-12 to the now 2-2 Pirates.
