MADISON — The Jackson man accused of shooting into an occupied dwelling in Northbay remains in custody on a $1 million bond.

The man, Roman Cortez Hines, 38, of Jackson, was arrested and charged with drive-by shooting and shooting into a dwelling, Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor said Hines received a bond of $500,000 for each charge.

Hines’ case will be forwarded to Madison County District Attorney John ‘Bubba’ Bramlett for prosecution. Taylor said Hines will be housed at the Madison County Detention Center as he awaits his initial appearance.

On July 19, Taylor announced “through an extensive investigation,” MPD arrested Hines in connection with the shooting into an occupied dwelling that occurred in the Northbay Subdivision on July 11.

Taylor said he could not release further details on a motive or the circumstances of Hines’s arrest.

“We can’t elaborate on anything further due to the matter still being under investigation,” Taylor said.

He did note that Hines was brought in “without incident” and said MPD and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations executed several search warrants, where items of evidentiary value related to the initial crime were collected.

In addition to the MBI, Taylor said, a number of agencies asssited in the investigation including Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Homeland Security Investigations, Ridgeland Police Department, Jackson Police Department and Ontario Provincial Police Highway Enforcement team out of Canada.

“The Madison Police Department would like to thank all officers involved for an exceptional job throughout the entirety of the investigation,” Taylor said.

MPD also asked for the public’s assistance in identifying Hines through pictures of his motorcycle and jacket.

This arrest stems from an incident reported on July 11 at approximately 5:30 a.m. At this time the Madison Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls in regard to shots being fired in the neighborhood.

Shortly after receiving the 9-1-1 calls, officers arrived on scene and located a house on Long Cove Drive that was struck several times with bullets. No injuries were reported, according to Taylor.

Taylor said the investigation believes “this is an isolated event with no additional threat to public safety.”
