Baptist opening rehab hospital in Madison
MADISON — Baptist Memorial Health Care and Lifepoint Rehabilitation broke ground Tuesday on a 40-bed rehabilitation hospital south of Keifer’s on the Highland Colony Parkway.
Bobbie Ware, CEO and administrator of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, said the new facility, which is on a four-acre lot, will offer comprehensive treatment and services, including physical medicine and rehabilitation, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social services, case management, and nutritional services.
“This is an exciting day for our team and the Madison community,” Ware said. “We have spent years planning this hospital and identifying ways Baptist can help expand access to quality and diverse health care in Madison and Mississippi. Seeing this project take off is beyond gratifying for me as a healthcare leader and citizen of Mississippi.”
The new two-story, 56,000-square-foot rehabilitation hospital, Baptist Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital-Madison, will be located at 1520 Highland Colony Parkway.
Baptist officials said they hope to have the building complete by late 2025.
Lifepoint Rehabilitation is a business unit of Lifepoint Health based out of Brentwood, Tenn. Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Rehabilitation, said this facility represents a “long standing” collaboration with Baptist Memorial Health Care. They currently partner with Baptist at a facility in Germantown, Tenn.
“Lifepoint Rehabilitation is excited to build on our long-standing collaboration with Baptist Memorial Health Care in Germantown, Tennessee, through this new partnership with Mississippi Baptist Medical Center here in Madison, Mississippi,” Bailey said. “We have considered best practices and the latest designs in rehabilitation to make sure we’re providing the most advanced and therapeutic environment in a high-tech and high-touch facility. Together, we will build a place of healing and recovery at our Madison rehabilitation hospital.”
The 56,000-square-foot facility will feature a secured acquired brain injury unit with private dining, a therapy gym and rooms for multiple therapy protocols. The hospital will also have a courtyard with miniature golf, nature therapy options and varied surface walking paths for patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation care for stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, complex neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, multiple traumas, amputation and other injuries or disorders.
Baptist Memorial Health Care filed a certificate of need for the new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in February 2022.
