Nearly 20 percent of Madison County’s total COVID-19 cases have been reported within the last two weeks as numbers continue to rise across the state. 

Madison County is reporting 551 new cases within the last week, bringing the total now to 6,665. There were 636 new cases two weeks ago. 

The total number of deaths in the county rose by four within the last week to 127.

Madison County schools began Christmas break this week. Three high schools had moved to virtual-only leading up to the holidays because of outbreaks at the school.

According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, over 150 students were quarantined last week. 

St. Anthony Catholic School, which has only reported 1-5 positive cases since classes resumed this fall, had 30 students quarantined last week.

Germantown High School has the most cases in the county with 55, followed by Madison Middle School with 44, and Ridgeland High School with 26.

Other schools and case totals are: Ann Smith Elementary (1-5), Camden Elementary (1-5), East Flora Elementary (1-5), Germantown Middle School (20), Highland Elementary (1-5), Luther Branson Elementary (1-5), Madison Avenue Elementary (1-5), Madison Avenue Upper Elementary (7), Madison Crossing (8), Madison Station (22), Mannsdale Elementary (1-5), Mannsdale Upper Elementary (1-5), Olde Town Middle School (7), Rosa Scott (21), Shirley Simmons Middle School (1-5), and Velma Jackson High School (10). 

The MSDH issued on Tuesday does not include schools in the Canton Public Schools District.

Madison County remains under a mandatory mask ordinance by Gov. Tate Reeves until Jan. 15, 2021.

On Wednesday, the MSDH identified 2,634 new cases of COVID-19 across the state with 43 new deaths.

COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state have risen from 669 on Nov. 10 to an all-time high of  1,267 on Dec. 21. Patients in the ICU are also nearing an all-time high at 336, as the number on ventilators also continues to rise. 

In total, 200,325 cases have been reported across the state with 4,533 deaths.
