City celebrates firefighters

Aldermen declared the third week of February as Firefighter Appreciation Week and the community turned out in full support.

“Oh yeah, they did!” Division Chief Nick Rushton said of the huge response.

Division Chief Dustin Perry said the department felt “overwhelming support” from individuals and businesses during the celebration Feb. 19-23

“People brought a bunch of goodies and showed their support in all kinds of ways,” Perry said.”Our guys really felt all the love and appreciation.”

The week kicked off with a delivery of sandwich trays from Priority One Bank.

“We are grateful to all these hometown heroes do to keep our community safe,” Elizabeth Fulcher with the Gluckstadt Madison County Business Alliance said.

The long list of gifts included pizzas from the newly opened Soulshine Pizza in Gluckstadt, cookies from La Dida Gifts, Girl Scout Cookies from Tindle Family Dentistry and a free 30 minutes of axe throwing from Timber Tavern Axe Throwing.

Timber Tavern’s said in a social media they wanted to offer “a big thank you to the Gluckstadt Fire Fighters for their incredible service to our community.”
