As the March of The Mayors food drive comes to a close this week, Mayor Walter Morrison says it is not too late to contribute.

“I would encourage everyone to support this worthwhile cause,” Morrison said.

March of the Mayors is an annual food drive where local municipalities are assigned a canned good to collect between Feb. 1 and March 1. It is organized by Open Table.

Gluckstadt was assigned canned soup and according to City Clerk Lindsay Kellum, the city has already collected about three boxes worth.

“It is going really well,” Morrison said. “We have seen a lot of involvement.”

City drop-off locations include:

• City Hall at 343 Distribution Dr.

• Sullivan’s Gluckstadt at 155 Calhoun Station Parkway.

• Both Gluckstadt Fire Stations on Yandell Road.

“Bulk purchases welcome, as soup collections are needed,” a statement from the city said. “Please consider donating today to this worthy cause and please share our post.”

Eight municipalities are competing with Madison County having the largest share with four.

Canton is collecting spaghetti noodles with drop-offs at City Hall, the public library and the Canton Police Department.

Ridgeland is receiving canned fruit through their Fire Stations and Madison is accepting canned tuna at the fire station on Old Canton Road and Mannsdale Road.

Organizers are still recruiting volunteers for their box-packing party held at Christ United Methodist in Jackson on Wednesday, March 6, at 9 a.m.
