RIDGELAND — A Jackson man has been arrested after he fled authorities on foot with a stolen rifle last month.

The man, Quatyn Tschajwn Hill, 27, of Jackson, was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, fleeing law enforcement, two counts of felony carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, credit card fraud, and failure to comply with a request from a law enforcement officer, the authorities said.

Hill is currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center pending an initial court appearance.

Hill is believed to be connected to several auto burglaries being investigated by Ridgeland Police “over the last few weeks,” according to a statement from Ridgeland Police. Firearms, credit cards, and other personal property were among the items reported taken, the statement said.

“Hill’s actions put himself, our officers, and the general public in danger,” the statement said in part. “The Ridgeland Police Department is grateful that this situation was resolved without serious injury to anyone involved.”

On Saturday, Dec. 21, investigators observed Hill traveling in a suspicious vehicle which was later parked at Staybridge Suites, 801 Ridgewood Road. As they attempted to make contact with Hill, he fled on foot.

Officers pursued Hill, who ran away carrying an AR-15 pattern rifle. During the chase, Hill tripped and dropped the rifle, at which point he was taken into custody by RPD officers.

A bystander who saw the commotion assisted officers in detaining Hill, who continued to be combative.

Hill was placed into custody without further incident, according to the RPD statement.

The rifle he carried was stolen in a recent string of burglaries. Numerous other stolen items were also collected at the scene, RPD said.
