New Stage Theatre’s First Stages Theatre Camp has many Madison County participants.

Campers are currently preparing for the camp’s final performance, “Seussical the Musical Kids,” on June 16 at 11 a.m.

River Tillman, one of the Madison campers, said acting through the whole play has been his favorite part of the camp.

“I have the role of a Who,” Tillman said. “I have learned how to do a box step and about teamwork.”

Summer camp staff member and Madison resident Claire Justice Porter said she believes in the importance of the camp and that it is a great way for kids to make friends from a variety of places.

“It’s an amazing way for kids to find their voices through a creative outlet,” Porter said. “First Stages Camp offers young kids confidence that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

The First Stages Theatre Camp, which began on June 5 and runs through June 16, serves as an introduction to acting, singing, and dancing for students ages 7 to 11. The goal of the camp is to shape and share the creative experience by building a theatre vocabulary, performing in front of others, and developing skills in storytelling and improvisation. Campers have received daily instruction in acting from experienced teachers and will show off skills they have learned with a performance of Seussical the Musical Kids.

Madison County students participating in the summer camp include: Elizabeth Amundson, Kennedy Bailess, Lilly Dennis, Gracyn

Dilley, Eliza Jane Dukes, Roxi Mabry, Emma Paadimitriou, River Tillman, Milani Campbell, Zipporah Lyles, Ava Raby, Ollie Roberson, Piper Roberson, and Daniela Tiza.
