More Madison County schools to close Tuesday due to winter weather

Madison County Schools will close Tuesday due to winter weather.

Approaching winter weather is expected to cause dangerous cold and treacherous road conditions in our area. In the interest of safety, campuses and offices of Madison County Schools will be closed and there will be no classes on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, according to officials.

There will be no classes on Tuesday, neither in-person nor virtual.

"Please stay safe and continue to be weather aware," officials said.

MRA announced a closure on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph Catholic School announced they will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and will hold classes virtually. St. Joseph officials said all after-school activities, including varsity sports, will be rescheduled.

St. Joseph will resume in-person classes on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with no early release.

Madison Police announced the closure of the Madison Parkway bridge Monday evening.

Gluckstad Police on Monday evening were warning residents to stay home.

First Presbyterian Day School will be closed on Tuesday.

Christ Covenant School announced they will be closed as well.

Gov. Tate Reeves has declared a State of Emergency in the wake of the storm.

The City of Madison announced that due to hazardous road conditions, Waste Management won't run trash or recycling routes on Tuesday. A decision has not yet been made for Wednesday routes, officials said late Monday.

The Ridgeland Police Department urged residents to stay home.

Waste Management announced they would suspend trash collection on Tuesday.

According to an announcement by Madison County, this includes Canton, Madison, Ridgeland, Clinton, Hinds County, Rankin County, Brandon, Pearl, and Copiah County.


"WM has suspended all garbage and trash collection services due to severe inclement weather conditions for central Mississippi area customers on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024," an announcement by the company said. "We will resume services as soon as weather and road conditions safely allow. We thank our valued customers for their patience and cooperation."
