Mother, son arrested for murder

CANTON — A Yazoo City mother and her 16-year-old son have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man here last week that wounded his son.

The teen charged in the shooting has been identified as Rantelvin Dajuan Richardson, 16. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and murder. His mother, Masheka Lasheince Gibson, 34, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

Canton Police Chief Otha Brown said the charges stem from a Sunday, Jan. 8 incident on Boyd Street.

Brown said Canton PD received the call reporting the shooting at 7:42 p.m. and had an officer on the scene by 7:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, the officer discovered Derrick Mack, 45, and Quindarious Mack, 25, had been shot. 

Brown said they received gunshot wounds to their right side.

Derrick Mack, the father, was transported to Merit Health in Canton and his son, Quindarious was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Brown said Derrick Mack was later pronounced dead and though Quindarious was initially listed in critical condition he has since been released from the hospital.

Both were arrested and charged on Wednesday, Jan. 10 and are being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
