Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on I-55

MADISON — A fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian on I-55 north of here Saturday is under investigation by state and local law enforcement.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” Public Affairs Officer Darnika Mayfield said.

The pedestrian, Frank Tucker, 51, of Jackson, was fatally injured by an unidentified vehicle early on the afternoon on Saturday, July 15, while walking north on Interstate 55, Mayfield said. 

MHP received the call at about 2:20 p.m., of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 55 in Madison County involving a pedestrian, he said.

Tucker was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the authorities.

MHP closed a portion of I-55 near the 110-mile marker in connection with the incident. 

The Madison Police Department is assisting with the Highway Patrol’s investigation.
